CodeLamda's founder was part of the mobile engineering team behind BritBox, the BBC and ITV streaming joint venture. The work covered the React Native client shipped to iOS and Android — playback, DRM, offline downloads, subscription and entitlement flows — for an audience spanning multiple countries, devices and network conditions.
A streaming client is deceptively hard: DRM-protected playback behaves differently on every OS version, adaptive bitrate has to degrade gracefully on poor mobile networks, offline downloads must survive app kills and storage pressure, and entitlement checks have to be correct on every launch without adding startup latency. All of it had to ship on a single shared codebase across iOS and Android, at a scale where a regression reaches millions of subscribers before a fix can be rolled out.
A React Native client with native modules where the platform demanded them — DRM and the player were bridged to native rather than forced through JavaScript. Downloads were built as a resumable queue with explicit storage accounting; entitlement state was cached with a fast-path check on launch and reconciled in the background; and release risk was managed with staged rollouts and crash-rate gates so a bad build could be halted before it reached the full subscriber base.
